- PIAFF&CO: Project launched to monitor birds and bats around offshore wind farmsMarch 22, 2022Offshore wind environmental monitoring and impact studies are an important component of the research conducted at the SEM-REV offshore test site. The PIAFF&CO project will improve knowledge of flying fauna - birds and bats - in the vicinity of offshore wind farms. The project is run by Centrale Nantes in conjunction with the Centre d'Écologie et des Sciences de la Conservation du Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, the St Nazaire offshore wind farm and BW Ideol.
- Analysis of 10 years of SEM-REV metocean data made publicMarch 30, 2022The SEM-REV offshore test site is tasked with meeting the R&D challenges of Marine Renewable Energy technologies. To this end, measurements have been made on the offshore site since 2009. SEM-REV has just published a report summarising the meteorological and oceanic data from the site, located off the coast of Le Croisic.
- THeoREM's test facilities among the most requested in the MaRINET2 Transnational Access programApril 5, 2022With 295 applications received, 170 projects selected and the funding of more than 600 weeks of access to the MaRINET2 consortium's test facilities, the outcomes of the MaRINET2 Transnational Access program are extremely positive. This transnational program is a major component of the MaRINET2 project (H2020-INFRAIA, 2017-2021) aimed at accelerating the development and deployment of Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) technologies.

- Postdoctoral position available in the LHEEA on "full-scale experimental validation of realtime deterministic wave prediction applied to floating wind turbines"April 7, 2022Centrale Nantes has a new postdoctoral position available within the framework of the EU H2020 FLOATECH project. The overall objective of this project is to increase the technical maturity and the cost competitiveness of floating offshore wind energy. Among the different specific objectives, readiness of a real-time prediction of the wave field from a set of measurements and feeding the wind turbine controller is thought to be improved. The power grid operator has thus responded positively to the requested increase in power capacity on Centrale Nantes' offshore test site, SEM-REV.
- Update on the MAN ENERGY SOLUTIONS ChairApril 29, 2022Maritime transport is currently experiencing rapid growth and it is also the most efficient form of transport in terms of GHG emissions (gCO2/Tonne/km). Centrale Nantes, via the LHEEA, and MAN Energy Solutions have been working together on this subject since 2018, as part of an industrial chair on the gradual decarbonisation of marine propulsion and electricity production. - Update on the MANN+HUMMEL ChairMay 9, 2022A long-term working relationship between Mann+Hummel and Centrale Nantes, via the LHEEA, began over 13 years ago with several collaborative projects. These joint research activities led to the creation of two chairs led by David Chalet. The first between 2014 and 2018 was on "Innovative intake manifolds and thermal management". A new chair is underway, until 2023, on a different topic: "Filtration systems: fluid dynamics and reduced energy consumption". Read on for an update on this chair!
- 1st series of tests in the Centrale Nantes towing tank for the WASANO projectMay 18, 2022One of the major challenges in the maritime field today is to take extreme sea conditions into account when designing marine structures. The WASANO project, which brings together 10 international universities and 3 companies, is addressing these issues through several disciplines. - First evacuation exercise by helicopter on a wind turbine in FranceJune 1, 2022On 24 March 2022, a first-ever evacuation exercise by helicopter from a floating wind turbine (FLOATGEN) took place on the SEM-REV offshore test site in France. This exercise in real conditions required cooperation between CROSS Etel, the Sécurité Civile, the SNSM, BW Ideol and Centrale Nantes.

- Rogue waves generated in the towing tank - article published in Physical Review FluidsJuly 11, 2022Rogue waves are very high ocean waves, compared to their immediate neighbours, which can form on both calm and rough seas. This sudden and unpredictable phenomenon may be rare, but it needs to be studied because of its danger to sea users. These rogue waves are the subject of joint collaboration between researchers from Centrale Nantes - via the LHEEA - the CNRS and the universities of Paris and Lille as part of the ANR DYSTURB project.
- An insight into one of the numerical simulation methods used in the LHEEA Laboratory to optimise ship performanceJuly 18, 2022Jeroen Wackers, a research engineer in the METHRIC team, works on the simulation of maritime flows using the automatic mesh refinement method. These simulations provide an understanding into the interactions between a ship and its environment in real conditions in order to optimise the energy performance of ships.
- A LHEEA article on fluid-structure interactions receives the Best Paper 2022 award from 'Engineering Analysis with Boundary Elements'July 21, 2022The journal 'Engineering Analysis with Boundary Elements' established its Best Paper Award in 2018 as an annual award for articles with the most scientific impact in the three preceding years. The journal itself has an impact factor of 3.3, having climbed steadily in recent years. The article's lead author, PengNan Sun, spent 2 years as a Post-Doc at the LHEEA between 2018 and 2020.
- CFM 2022 (French Mechanics Congress) in NantesAugust 29, 2022 - September 2, 2022CFM (French Mechanics Congress) brings together the French and French-speaking community in the field of mechanics under the aegis of the Association Française de Mécanique (AFM). The 2022 edition will be hosted in Nantes, from 29 August to 2 September. It is organised by Centrale Nantes, the CNRS, alongside Nantes University, the University of La Rochelle and the École Navale.
