CNRS Workshop on Marine Renewable Energies

The second edition of the CNRS Workshop on Marine Renewable Energies of the GdR CNRS 3763 EMR will take place this year in Le Havre, Normandy from 13 to 17 May 2019.

From May 13, 2019 to May 17, 2019 All day

From May 13, 2019 to May 17, 2019 All day

From May 13, 2019 to May 17, 2019 All day

The training objectives are twofold:

  • On the one hand, it aims to provide the keys to understanding the challenges and the maturity of the energy sector by presenting a comprehensive overview of the  technologies linked to offshore wind, tidal turbines, ocean thermal energy and wave energy, as well as the context of the electricity market.
  • On the other hand, as part of two in-depth courses, it aims to foster skill development and the dissemination of existing knowledge and expertise in and between disciplines.
This workshop is open to any public with basic technical and scientific knowledge. It is particularly intended for students, PhD students and young researchers starting a research activity in marine renewable energies. It is also intended for engineers and researchers who are redirecting their research interests or wishing to discover and / or go further into the topic.

The workshop's programme is broken down into three parts.

1. Introduction - one and a half days - will provide an overview of marine renewable energy technologies and the context of the electricity market.

2. The second part comprises two in-depth courses conducted in parallel over two and a half days. The courses being run in parallel, it will be possible to attend only one of the two courses. For the 2019 edition, the two courses to choose from are:

  • Electric conversion chain for MRE - J.F. Charpentier (Ecole Naval, Brest) and H. Gualous (Caen Normandy University, Cherbourg)
  • Sizing and behavior of structures at sea - C. Peyrard (EDF & LHNE, Paris) and D. Lemosse (INSA Rouen Normandy, Rouen)
3. The final part includes MRE site visits.

The school will be held on a residential basis in Le Havre city centre, at the Mercure Hotel: https://www.accorhotels.com/fr/hotel-0341-hotel-mercure-le-havre-centre-bassin-du-commerce/index.shtml
