Testing back on track in the LHEEA wind tunnels!
An update on wind tunnel testing in the LHEEA.
on
June 9, 2020
After several months of stoppage, the
DAUC
team at the LHEEA, in charge of the
atmospheric
and
aerodynamic
wind tunnels, is pleased to resume suspended test campaigns.
It took a week to reinstall the equipment and instruments, check and recalibrate them before testing could start.
In the atmospheric wind tunnel, testing for the
FLOATEOLE
project has resumed.
The "offshore atmospheric boundary layer" configuration has been reinstalled for tests on the wake of a floating wind turbine using PIV (Particle image velocimetry) and pressure measurements (PhD thesis by Benyamin Schliffke with DAUC/EMO team collaboration). The objective is to measure the characteristics of the wake of a floating wind turbine. The FLOATEOLE
project aims to combine wind tunnel and full-scale offshore experiments in order to characterize the wave influence on the aerodynamic behaviour of the floating wind turbines and on their wake development.
Atmospheric Wind Tunnel
As for the aerodynamic wind tunnel, the installation of the new aerodynamic balance for the
ePARADISE and MOMENTA
projects has resumed.
The objective is to improve the current installation for aerodynamic force measurements at higher Reynolds numbers. The team aims to have this new facility in place by 11 June with Ingrid Neunaber, Post-doc in the DAUC team.
The eParadise project objective is to bring two types of aerodynamic sensors to maturity for life time extension and noise reduction of today’s operating wind turbines, while maintaining (or even increasing) the energy production. As for the ANR MOMENTA project signed in 2019, it focuses on improving the modelling/forecasting of aero-elastic loads induced by the wake of one wind turbine on another, with the aim of better taking these loads into account in the upstream phases of farm design.
Aerodynamic Wind Tunnel
As part of a collaborative endeavour between the two laboratories, the LS2N will resume the testing of actuators to be implemented in the wind tunnel blade profiles.
The objective is to insert elaborate control laws into the local reactive control, linked to the
ASAPe project.
And finally, no lockdown for the
LiDAR, which has continued its work at Penn Avel, in Le Croisic!
