4th call FORESEA for testing MRE technologies on SEM-REV

The FORESEA programme (Funding Ocean Renewable Energy through Strategic European Action) has launched its 4th call for proposals. The FORESEA project aims to help bring ocean energy technologies to market by providing access to northwestern Europe’s world-leading network of test centres. Through the project, the performance of innovative ocean renewable energy technologies will be demonstrated in real sea conditions, helping to leverage the investment needed to take these new products to market.

The FORESEA programme represents an important part of the necessary financing for MRE developers to test their technologies at sea in real conditions.

Previous FORESEA calls targeted developers of offshore renewable energy technologies. This, the 4th FORESEA call, extends the scope to technology developers in other offshore sectors, such as oil & gas, subsea and shipping industries, which have renewable energy applications.

The FORESEA programme launched its 4th call for proposals on 11th October at the Offshore Energy 2017 conference.

Nicolas Wallet, EU Programme Manager at EMEC, highlighted the opportunity this call presents for offshore sectors:
“With this call, we want to provide access to the renewable energy market for technology developers from other sectors. The market for offshore renewables such as wave, tidal and offshore wind is developing rapidly, while at the same time other offshore sectors such as oil & gas have hit a rough patch. So, diversifying into offshore renewables makes a lot of sense for those developers. We’re keen to have that conversation with technology developers, and see if FORESEA can support them to come to one of our test sites.”

The 4th FORESEA call for proposals is open until 29 June 2018.

The FORESEA project helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) test ocean energy technology in real sea conditions and prove power can be economically generated from the ocean, by providing free access to northwestern Europe’s world-leading network of test centres.

It is funded by the Interreg North West Europe programme, part of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
