Postdoctoral opportunity on the real-time deterministic wave prediction applied to floating wind turbines

The postdoctoral researcher will work on the development of a numerical tool to predict in real-time the wave field from a set of measurements. The final objective is to use the algorithm in operating conditions on floating offshore wind turbines. To this end, it needs to operate faster than physical time (allowing control strategies of wind turbines for instance). This position is available within the framework of two funded projects: EU (H2020) FLOATECH and French (ANR) CREATIF. Candidates with experience in scientific computing/numerical analysis and interest in ocean engineering are encouraged to apply.  Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics or relevant field of engineering such as Fluid Dynamics, Inverse Problems, Signal Processing, etc. as well as strong quantitative and writing skills. The initial appointment is for 18 months, with the possibility of renewal. Details are available in the attached document.

Postdoctoral position on the Modelling of aerosol dynamics in the coastal atmospheric boundary-layer

Centrale Nantes offers a postdoctoral position available within the framework of a collaborative project funded by the French National Agency. The recruited candidate will work at LHEEA laboratory in the research group Dynamic of Urban and Coastal Atmosphere (DAUC). The general objective of the DAUC group is to improve the understanding and the modelling of the physical processes involved in the dynamics and thermodynamics of the lower atmosphere and its complex interactions with land and sea surfaces. This research relies on Large-eddy simulation atmospheric models and dedicated field experiments or wind tunnel studies.

Étude du couplage ENR-Diesel pour la production d'électricité en site isolé

La transition énergétique semble imposer le déploiement de centrales de production d’électricité exploitant des sources d’énergie renouvelables, éoliennes (terrestres ou off-shore) et/ou solaires (centrales photovoltaïques (PV) essentiellement, ou solaire thermodynamique à concentration dans une moindre mesure). L’un des principaux verrous est l’intermittence de ces modes de production d’énergie dits « non-pilotables ». Tant que des systèmes de stockage massifs de l’énergie ne sont pas déployés, il doit y avoir accord entre production et consommation d’électricité à tout instant (équilibre du réseau électrique). Le couplage entre sources renouvelables non-pilotables et sources conventionnelles pilotables est alors nécessaire.

A petite échelle, telle que pour des sites isolés (par exemple pour les îles non raccordées au réseau électrique continental) l’hybridation de systèmes conventionnels et de sources renouvelables permet localement : le déploiement des ENR, la réduction des émissions de CO2 (par rapport à des centrales thermiques conventionnelles), tout en assurant la fourniture en électricité. C’est dans ce contexte que l’on souhaite étudier le couplage entre une centrale Diesel et une centrale ENR (éolien ou PV).
