The METHRIC team at SIMMAN 2020

The METHRIC team (Modelling of Incompressible Turbulent Flows at High Reynolds numbers and Couplings) from the LHEEA is taking part in SIMMAN 2020.

This workshop focuses on the verification and validation Ship Manoeuvring Simulation Methods. Its objective is to benchmark the capabilities of manoeuvring prediction methods through comparisons with towing tank results for tanker (KVLCC2), container (KCS), and surface combatant hull form (ONRT) test cases.

As for the 2008 and 2014 workshops, a variety of methods, including CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) predictions, are available for predicting forces and trajectories.

The METHRIC research group works on the numerical modeling of turbulent flows of incompressible viscous fluids around complex geometries under real conditions. This concerns both hydrodynamics and low-speed unsteady aerodynamics within the limit of incompressible fluid assumptions. In the context of hydrodynamics, group's research provides an understanding of vessel-propulsion interactions under real conditions in order to optimize the energy performance of ships.

This is the 3rd edition of this workshop, previously held in 2008 and 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
